Flowers for Mother’s Day
I was (again) searching for the perfect mother’s day gift for my great-grandmother.
She likes flowers so I thought that I’d go through some I thought were nice…it will also pretty up my blog a little – who doesn’t like flowers?
This is probably my personal favorite from the 1-800-FLOWERS site. (What, you go somewhere else for flowers? I don’t, the vases are always what gets me from 1-800-FLOWERS…they’re so pretty!)
It’s fresh, it’s perfect for spring, and you don’t have to get a bunch of long stemmed roses to refill the vase later in the summer.
Also, since the vase is clear you don’t have to worry about it matching whatever mom’s new decor is. My great grandmother has a lot of nick-nacks and I’d hate to get her flowers that didn’t match everything else in her living room.
This is my second choice, because hey…even if she doesn’t like the flowers she’ll love the chocolate. I’m practical like that. We have had years when we got her flowers and she didn’t like the flowers or the vase, this seems to ensure I can only mess up so badly getting her something so personal!
I also like that the vase is nice and thin. So you might even be able to get away with reusing it as a bud vase if you put some aquarium rocks in the bottom to hold the bud centered. A little baby’s breath and viola! A nice side table accent.
This bold bouquet is my third choice. Made more attractive since it’s on sale (hey, getting it on sale does not mean I love grams less than paying full price. It means I love gram and I love my budget!)
I know purple is a great color, but the fact that the vase isn’t just a vase but a watering jug is what makes it stand out for me. That and because we’re Irish gram always goes for the green carnations, regardless of how close or far we are from St. Patrick’s Day. She sees it as remembering her (our) heritage.
Overall it’s a tough call. Do I go with the easiest to reuse, or the most functional out of the three? I’m not sure which one she would love more, or if she would love having a pitcher she could use to water plants more than she would love the simple clear vase or even the potential bud vase.
As mother’s day draws near it seems to me the most important thing I need to do is make a decision on what to get her. But I’m sold on flowers, even if I get her something in addition. I’ve never gotten her a bouquet from 1-800-FLOWERS and not had a great reaction from her.
I hope my husband is taking some time to browse this website, because I’d be happy with any of the three options above..and after all…I’m a mother too!
