Surrounding yourself with good people.

There’s an entry over at the Blessed Beyond Measure blog that got me all teary eyed.

For those of you that know me, you know this is no small feat. I do not get misty at cheezy romance movies, I do not sniffle when my kids do something cute. I’m not really that kind of an emotional person.

Well, not including that one commercial for the Mormons where the old lady is sitting in a chair in front of a blaring TV and she hears noise in the hallway and gets all excited and opens her door and there’s this sweet couple with kids and she smiles and they go to the open door of the gramma across the hall and the gramma with no visitors abmles back to her chair, looking just devestated.

That one has me snivelling into the phone with my great-grandmother telling her how much I love her every time. (Her response, "Did you see that damn commercial again?" Followed by a tolerant sigh.)

But the story is that Bev (whom I feel a little uncomfortable calling Bev, as I don’t know her and just found her blog today) got into an auto accident with a light pole. The story is not in the accident, nor the light pole, nor the shame she must have felt for doing that in a parking lot (it’s okay Bev, we’ve all been there) but in her husband’s reaction to the incident.

Wow. He was so gracious.

It reminded me that we CHOOSE whom we surround ourselves with. We do. There is NEVER a situation where you cannot change who you are going to date, marry, work with, work for, or hire.

While you’ll tend to hear people more often than not complain about the people they are around, it’s SO nice to hear people praise to the skies people that are truly patient, and kind, and understanding.

I am surrounded by some of the most amazing people I could possibly imagine. From clients to cohorts to my amaznig family…I’m truly one of the lucky ones. Well, that’s mostly because I made wise decisions and those bore amazing fruit. Of course, those wise decisions were because I trusted my (fill in the blank with instincts, gut, faith, or whatever else resonates with you).

My toughest job every day is to keep trying to be one of those amazing people that brings joy and inspiration to the lives of others. It’s one thing to find people to make you look amazing…quite another to make others look as good as you think they should!

Why not visit Bev and get some enjoyment of your own from her well written site?
