Virtual Assistant Coaching
In my younger years I had a series of struggling female roommates in whatever apartment I lived in at the time. I’d found success working downtown as an Administrative Assistant in a really great firm, and didn’t see what all the fuss was about getting a job that paid well.
Eventually I’d have a conversation that went along the lines of my roomie asking me how I did it and after I was done explaining the response would be, “You make it sound so easy…but I could never do that… So I’d set out to show them exactly how to do it, from showing them where to look for work, how to dress for the interview, reviewing and retooling their resume, and staging mock interviews with them.
They all have pretty impressive jobs these days, from property management to corporate administration. I don’t take the credit for them being where they are, because once you get the job you have to have the skills to do the job; I only smile when they tell me they couldn’t have done it without me.
When I was a child, my family always thought I would become a teacher. I have a knack for explaining without being patronizing, helping without pushing, and listening without judgment. I want people to succeed. The more successful women there are in the world, the more say we will have to make our world the way we want it to. I’d like to see daycare in the corporate building as a given, not a surprise. The ability to go anywhere where your skills and personality take you is my goal for everyone, not just me.
This is why I became a VA coach. I’ve worked closely with coaches for the last year and now understand that what I’ve been doing all along is a skill, and that I should not limit this skill to just helping friends. I’ve also been developing a partnership with a great online resource, VAU. They not only have a great classroom setup, wonderful teachers and a fantastic curriculum that is geared for success – they are affordable. I’ve heard people say you get what you pay for, but that doesn’t mean you should make a product as expensive as possible to infuse it with value.
