Advice And Tips From A Former Internet Marketing VA That Now Works With Fortune 500 Companies
I always wanted something better for my family.
When I was pregnant with my first child, I was demoted from my full time office manager position because the boss said I was going to be too emotional to manage anyone and, really, what was I doing that was so managerial anyway?
Too bad I didn’t get it on tape, right?
One thing he was right about - I was hormonal - I got so mad at that demotion I quit that night!
With no plan, no money, and my husband looking for work…I needed to find a way to work from home that paid some bills - and fast!
I started as a customer service rep for a large home shopping company. They had thousands of customer service reps, all working from home, and we had to log in and hit refresh on the screen to try and get the “good” hours. I spent many nights taking calls at 3am just to make sure I got a paycheck. Every moment I wasn’t on a call with a customer I was surfing the web looking for an opportunity that would fit who I was and what I needed while paying more than customer service.
A home party plan and MLM pyramid later - I finally, FINALLY found VAnetworking.com - I must have read that forum for the next eight hours!
When I was done reading, I realized, this…this was something I could do!
Here is what Virtual Assistance means to me:
- Money in the bank without having to leave the kids behind.
- On the job paid training learning things I always wanted to know how to do.
- A stepping stone to finding better opportunities.
Don’t get me wrong, I know people that have been VAs longer than I have and will be VAs until they retire. I respect each and every one of them. But being a Virtual Assistant forever isn’t for everyone!
You may not be a “forever” Virtual Assistant if:
- You wish your client would listen to more of your business recommendations.
- You ever feel like “just the help.”
- You know you have the right answer but the client still wants to do it their way.
- You feel like you can’t make more money without giving up the rest of your time. Time you could be spending with your spouse or your kids or your dogs or your cats.
I would not be where I am today if it was not for the love and support I found in the Virtual Assistant industry. The women I know are hard workers that never shirk at another task or last-minute assignment. I will always consider Virtual Assistants my sisters no matter what I do today, tomorrow, or next week to put food on my table.
This used to be my Virtual Assistant business website. Now it is where I share tips and advice for other Virtual Assistants who don’t want to be VAs forever…
